Sustainable Wantage Limited, located at 12 Saxon Place, Wantage OX12 9HX, is committed to compliance with all relevant UK and EU laws in respect of personal data, and to protecting the rights and freedoms of individuals whose information Sustainable Wantage collects in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016/679.
We (The Board of Sustainable Wantage) are responsible for keeping your personal information safe and making sure we comply with the GDPR. This means we are a ‘controller’ for your personal information.
What personal data do we collect?
Personal data means any information relating to you which allows us to identify you, such as your name and contact details. When using this website i.e. www.sustainablewantage.org.uk, this is via our e-mail links, newsletter sign-up and online donation form.
How do we collect your data?
Donations to Sustainable Wantage via online donation form
Customer data is held within Sustainable Wantage’s Donorbox account. At a minimum, a donor is required to submit an e-mail address, however donors can choose to donate anonymously. The facility exists to erase a donor’s data on request.
The personal information you give us is stored when you contact us by e-mail or letter, when you make a donation and when you sign up to our newsletter.
How do we use your data?
We will use your personal information to provide you with the services or information you have requested, for administration purposes and to enable us to offer help and assistance.
We have a ‘legitimate interest’ to do this under GDPR, except where such interest is overridden by the interests of fundamental rights and freedoms. This mean it lets us carry out our aims and goals as an organisation.
In order to deliver our services, we may need to share your information with other authorised, associated organisations and agents. Sustainable Wantage will not exchange or sell your data to any third parties for marketing purposes.

Sustainable Wantage takes the care of your personal data seriously and undertakes to protect your personal information in a range of ways.
In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect and keep online.
What rights you have over your data
To Be Informed – You have the right to be informed about the collection of and our use of your personal data.
The right to access – You have the right to contact Sustainable Wantage to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
The right to rectification – You have the right to request that Sustainable Wantage correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request Sustainable Wantage to complete the information you believe is incomplete.
The right to erasure – You have the right to request that Sustainable Wantage erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that Sustainable Wantage restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to Sustainable Wantage’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to data portability – You have the right to request that Sustainable Wantage transfer the data that we have collected to another organisation, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
Limits to maintaining the confidentiality of an individual
In certain circumstances, Sustainable Wantage reserves the right to breach an individual’s confidentiality and share their data should this be deemed necessary. These circumstances include, but are not limited to, where:
- it is believed that an individual could cause danger to themselves or others;
- it involves a possible ‘safeguarding’ alert;
- information indicates that a crime has been committed;
- requirement by law to disclose information (for example to the police);
- receipt of information which indicates a possible terrorist threat.
The decision on whether to breach confidentiality will be decided on a case by case basis by Sustainable Wantage.
Data retention and disposal
All data will be held securely and for no longer than is necessary for reasons of legitimate interest.
Where data is retained after the processing date, all reasonable measures will be taken to safeguard it, for example keeping anti-virus software updated and changing passwords frequently.
Confidential waste, either electronic or on paper, will be disposed of securely.
Data breach procedures
If there is a breach of data security that is likely to cause risk to an individual’s rights and freedoms this will be reported to the ICO within 72 hours of having come to light. The individual concerned will be told the nature of the breach, likely consequences and measures taken / to be taken. Any breach will be logged and action taken to prevent re-occurrence.
Privacy policies of other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
