The Mix Community Fridge
Free surplus food at The Mix: We collect surplus food and share it out via our Community Fridge. Anyone is welcome to come and collect food during any of our opening times. What we have available varies but regularly includes bread and bakery products, fruit and veg. Follow our Facebook page to hear when there’s a lot of food available.
We collect from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Tesco Express and Oxford Food Hub. We also love receiving allotment or garden surplus produce. Our aim is to share surplus as widely as we can so that edible food doesn’t go to waste!
When you visit you’ll see on the board a list of the items we have available and the number you can choose. This changes daily based on the amount of food we have and the number of people visiting. You can choose a smaller bag if you’re just looking to help reduce food waste, or a larger bag if you need a bit of extra food that day.
The food we receive is often past its ‘best before’ date but still good to eat, if in doubt use your senses; if it looks ok, smells ok, and tastes ok…it’s ok!
Community Fridge food is also available at the Beacon, Wantage, on Fridays 1.45-3pm and 3.15-4.15pm alongside our Community Larder.
Refills
Cut down on plastic: Our refill station offers a range of detergents and toiletries, so you can buy the product you need without getting a new plastic bottle every time! Bring clean, label-free bottles (noting sizes if possible). Card and cash are accepted, and we can provide email receipts.
Please note we are not able to refill food or drink containers.

Repair Café
Don’t chuck it – fix it! On the first Saturday of each month we have volunteer fixers at The Mix diagnosing and repairing household items. If you have something in need of repair please book a slot on our events page.
From toasters and toys, to hairdryers and hoovers, we’ll try and help you keep your things in use, saving you money and reducing waste.
We can also help with minor textile and clothing repairs, see Stitch Clinic below.
Stitch Clinic
Don’t ditch it – stitch it! On the third Saturday of each month we have Stitch Clinic, similar to the ever so popular Repair Café… but for textiles.
Our volunteer stitchers will help you give your well-loved items a longer life. Missing buttons, torn seams, tired teddies, pesky holes, worn areas – they can help with small repairs and simple alterations.

Library of Things
Why buy when you can borrow? In The Mix we have a Library of Things, such as cooking and cleaning equipment, partyware, DIY kit and garden tools, that anyone can borrow at a low cost. This helps reduce consumption and waste, save money, build a sharing community, and avoids everyone’s cupboards getting filled up with things we only use occasionally!

Reuse & recycling collections
Hard-to-recycle waste streams: Alongside refills we accept the following items for recycling:

We also have collection points for:
Getting Oxfordshire Online who refurbish secondhand laptops, tablets and phones for refugees and people in need.
The following items can be donated:
Laptops: up to 12 years old (Windows 7 upwards or all macs)
Tablets and phones: iphone5S, Android 8 or newer. Please factory reset your phone or tablet to release you from your icloud or google account before donating (otherwise the devices cannot be used). Any ‘dumb phones’ (e.g. old style Nokia) are also welcome.
USB chargers and cables for all laptops are also welcome!
Please leave your contact details with your devices in case Getting Oxfordshire Online need to contact you. We have forms in The Mix for this.
Markers for Mindfulness where you can donate new and used (in good condition) stationery items such as pens, pencils, scissors, paper, card, notebooks, pencil cases, rulers, highlighters, glue sticks and more, for use in schools.
